The Shorter 6” tank is an Aerator/Precipitator Tank which contains plastic balls which build up a coating of iron particles which have been separated from the water through the oxidation process. The balls do not have to be washed as the iron particle coating helps to attract more iron particles.

The Taller 9” x 48” tank is a Filter Tank
At the bottom of the filter tank is 20 pounds of “D” Gravel under-bed

At the beginning of each new season we should test the well pump output capacity and kill any bacteria in the filter by removing the control valve from the filter tank and pouring in 1 gallon of water mixed with 1 cup of household bleach. Let it sit for 30 minutes then backwash the system to kill any bacteria.
Every 10 years we should replace the media and retest the water for hardness, iron, manganese, PH, tannins and hydrogen sulfide.
