Pack up your favorite sandwiches and head just 20 minutes south to the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. There is a fee to enter the lighthouse parking lot, but if you’re planning a quick stop, it’s fine to park in the Gift Shop lot instead, where the views of the lighthouse and surf-watching are just as amazing.
The fort is not far from the lighthouse, and there is plenty of beach area for Frisbee and picnicking after you climb the fort. If you like beach-combing in rocks, consider stopping on your way home at the Salt Bay Preserve (a rest area just north of New Harbor on Route 32). Don’t forget to bring a pail!
